On the road by Jack Kerouac

I really like the book Fictitious dishes. it is really a clever thought is to document memorable meals in literature. On the Road states “But i had to get going and stop moaning, so I picked up my bag , said so-long to the old hotel keeper and went to eat. I ate apple pie and ice cream – it was getting better as i got deeper into IOWA, the pie bigger, the ice cream richer.”

Sal Paradse and Dean Moriarty reckless adventurers are chronicled in On the Road. One of the places Jack Kerouac (the author) spend time was Denver Colorado. My thought is the Lodo hotel could be the Barth or the Oxford.

The Kerouac walk also goes around 21st and Larimer – to Coors Field, or to five points for jazz.. That being said, and to return to the beat novel culinary thread … the pie is bigger and ice cream ricer – the name changed of the city in my opionion is changed as part of creative writing. If jack would stroll the streets today – he would still find the ice cream richer and pie bigger in Denver.

Well equipped kitchen article forgot an item ~ Cutlery Box

Alot can be told about what we have in our kitchen. I have read magazine articles about the “well equipped kitchen” and all the utensils that are needed to be well equipped. WELL!. In my kitchen my Mum has a cutlery box housing her best silver flat ware on red velvet. They were a gift from my great grandparents to my parents at their wedding. They come out at special occasion dining and are a sign that fine dining and fine memories will be shared at our dinner table. Now, this special heirloom seemed to be missing in the culinary articles.

Enticed from the cover of PIATTI – i had to have artichokes. Par boiled after trimmed up and then onto the grill for a bit of char. When the artichokes are cup side up a little herb butter into the center. I had thought of the orange Aoli as included in the recipe, however went in the direction of green goddess sauce to finish.

From there it is Eggplant from the farmers market.

Pealed egg Plant – salted to sweat
Golden Egg Plan
Sauced and Julienne Basil

Eggplant Parmigiana was served room temperature as the accompaniment for supper

The eggplant skins were pealed and slices are salted, rinsed. The eggplant are floured, Egg washed and into panko bread crumbs with dried and fresh herbs. the transformation was captured in the photos. The result is glorious.

FYI ~ day 2 the eggplant is as good as cold Pizza.
