Looking Forward to Fall: Dining in Denver

October has always felt like the beginning of dining season.

The air changes in Denver. Evenings arrive a little earlier. Jackets come back out, the holidays suddenly don’t seem so far away, and gathering around a table begins to feel important again.

This October, 5280 gave me something of a roadmap.

Its 2026 list of Denver’s 25 best restaurants travels remarkably far without leaving the city: Mexico, Japan, China, Taiwan, Vietnam, France, Italy, Ghana and Ukraine all find a place, while Colorado’s own seasonal ingredients keep those influences grounded here at home. Fourteen of the restaurants are fully or partially woman-owned, and 12 represent cuisines outside the Western tradition. [5280.com]

That’s an exciting way to think about eating in Denver.

Not simply, Where should we have dinner?

But rather, Where can dinner take us?

At the Table

There is Blackbelly, Hosea Rosenberg’s Boulder restaurant, where the commitment to local and regional meat and produce makes Colorado itself part of the menu.

Then Pig and Tiger, bringing Taiwanese comfort food into Five Points.

Noodles By Nina offers another journey, this one centered around Nina Zhang and Sichuan cooking.

And Dân Dã, standing among a growing group of restaurants showing just how interesting Vietnamese cooking along the Front Range has become.

Those are only the beginning.

The official list stretches across African Grill & Bar, Alma Fonda Fina, Annette, Barolo Grill, BearLeek, Hey Kiddo, MAKfam, Mama Jo’s Biscuits & BBQ, Major Tom, Marigold, Margot, Molino Chido, Molotov Kitschen & Cocktails, Osteria Alberico, Restaurant Olivia, Rougarou, S?p S?a, Sushi Den, Work & Class, Xiquita and Yuan Wonton. It is less a ranking to me than a map of possibilities.

Twenty-five restaurants. Two cities. One table at a time.
