Brownies
Double Chocolate Sheet Chocolate Chip Brownies
Equipment
- sheet pan
- mixer
Ingredients
- 2 cups Chocolate Chips Chocolate Morsels
- 1 cup Granulated Sugar
- 1/2 cup Apple Sauce Unsweetened
- 2 TBLSpoon Margarine
- 3 ea. Egg White
- 1-1/4 cup Flour All Purpose
- 1 /3 Teaspoon Baking Soda
- 1 /3 Teaspoon Salt
- 1 Teaspoon Vanilla Extract
Instructions
- PreHeat Oven to 350F
- melt 1/2 chocolate chips, sugar, applesauce and margarine in large, heavy sauce pan over low heat, stirring until smooth.
- remove from heat
- add egg white, stir in well.
- Stir in flour, baking soda, salt and vanilla. stir in the remaining morsels.
- spread onto a greased sheet pan. 13 x 9"
- bake 20 minutes – or until just set.
- Cool Completely and cut into squares.
Notes
These make 24 brownies. I like turning out the brownies when still warm and onto a sugar dusted sheet pan. we had fresh strawberries. So I added them. I am thinking Cherries next.

My favorite culinary myth about the brownie is from Betty Crocker’s Baking Classics.. The story goes >> a housewife in Maine, who was making a chocolate cake, forgot to add baking powder. When her cake didn’t rise properly, instead of tossing it out, she cut and served the flat pieces. A happy culinary accident and serendipitous.
The classic treat is now only limited by imagination. Smores, mint, white chocolate brownies, fudge brownies, newton brownies to name just a few.
