You Can’t go Home Again … or Can You?

There’s an old saying that you can’t go home again. Maybe that’s true. The places change, the people change, and even our memories tend to soften the edges of reality over time.

Yet whenever I find myself back in familiar territory, I catch myself searching for nostalgic. Not the landmarks or the streets, but the comfort foods that have somehow survived the passage of time.

One such place is Henry’s Hot Dogs.

It sits on a different corner now in Cherry Creek, relocated because of construction, but somehow it remains exactly what I remembered. The surroundings have changed, but the feeling hasn’t. Walking in feels like stepping through a doorway where time and distance lose their grip.

My order is always the same: a spicy dog loaded with jalapeƱos. Frances keeps it simple with a plain hot dog and a bottle of San Pellegrino.

Together, those familiar choices transport us back to another chapter of life, to long days of ballet classes and Dance Unbound, when schedules revolved around rehearsals, recitals, and quick meals grabbed between activities.

The hot dogs aren’t the point. It’s the memories. A bite becomes a reminder that while we can’t truly go home again, sometimes we can find small places that bring a piece of home back to us.

And for us, that place is Henry’s.
