Your first step through the door of Bastien’s Restaurant submerges you into a completely different world from the busy street, burning hot weather, and commotion of the outside world. Immediately, you are immersed into the ambience of the quaint and magical restaurant. Low lighting, sparkling fairy lights, friendly customer service, traditional table settings and menus, and the familiar sound of camaraderie: people talking and silverware gently hitting their respective plates.
The atmosphere of the restaurant set up the eating experience perfectly. Soon after ordering, our steaming meals, intentionally and elegantly plated, came to our table. The first bite was nothing short of ascending. The 10oz New York strip with Bastien’s world famous sugar rub was simply perfect. It is evident that Bastien’s has invested in a chef who takes pride in the art of their cooking, as the steak was crispy at first taste, and then melted in your mouth like butter. The meat itself was tender and chewable, yet not overdone. With a side of the signature sautéed veggies and (my personal favorite) a twice baked potato – the food on the plate worked harmoniously together, mimicking the Blues Jazz trio playing in the background of our dining experience.
Our evening at Bastien’s Restaurant – home of the sugar rub steak – was nothing short of magical. In a perfect world, every person should have an opportunity to visit this restaurant and indulge in its many wonders at least once in their life, for it is truly a 10/10 experience.
